Nestled right on Portland's waterfront, come here to sip on a cocktail, grab fresh, casual seafood bites, and watch the docks.
If you happen to be in Portland around breakfast time, this is a famous favorite.
Commonly known among locals and troubadours alike as the best lobster roll spot in Maine. It's grab-n'-go, food truck style. Lines are long, but the lobster roll is as good as it gets. About an hour north east from Portland, and only thirty minutes from Augusta.
A long-standing local favorite of the Hetzel and Herrmann families. On Friday or Saturday morning, guests can drive to the Apple Shed for homemade donuts, breakfast biscuit sandwiches, and fresh coffee. About 20 minutes from Augusta.
Our favorite book spot in Maine, and it's in the charming little college town of Farmington. Come here to explore and snag neat editions of used books and then walk around downtown Farmingtown (we recommend Tuck's or Dugout for a beer and a burger).
Camden is a wonderful coastal town less than an hour from Augusta that offers beautiful and breezy hikes up to peaks overlooking the port. It also offers neat dives, restaurants, and bookstores. Unless you're a serious hiker looking for a challenge, we'd recommend the Camden trails over Tumbledown. A perfect jaunt for Friday! We're linking the Mt. Battie trailhead, which is a short and steep mile hike with a view.
Looking for a challenging hike? Tumbledown is a beautiful mountain about an hour and twenty minutes from Augusta. Tumbledown is not for the faint of heart. There is plenty of elevation and unique features along the way to the top, including its famed "Fat Man's Misery," a tightfitting rock pass that opens up to a beautiful view of the mountain valley below. At the top of the mountain, you'll be rewarded by a large, clear-water lake you can swim in before heading back down. Be sure to budget your time and water, as this hike takes about five hours. It is well worth it though. It's our favorite Maine hike! Recommend using the AllTrails app. There are some parking logistics to navigate, so if you're considering this hike, reach out to Reese or Mary Kate and we will walk you through it.
