A great local spot in downtown Leesburg, their food is delicious!
Roots is a great place to grab lunch or a quick bite to eat. It also has a small specialty grocery store inside.
Vanish has a wide selection of beers, food offerings on Saturdays, and a big outdoor area with picnic tables for families and kids to enjoy.
Flying Ace has a wide variety of beers on tap as well as a barbecue, burger, and dessert menu. They also offer cocktails. There's a playground and large outside area for families and kids.
The Monocacy Aqueduct takes you along the C&O canal on the Potomac River. It's a very flat walk along the river for those looking to get outside.
For those looking for hiking, Sugarloaf Mountain is pretty close by and offers some nice views. There are multiple different trail options, some of which area very beginning friendly and flat.
Baker Park is a cute city park along the creek that runs through Frederick. It's a nice way to get out and walk around and connects right into downtown, which has lots of dining options and some shopping. Parking is free.
Since Downtown Frederick connects to Baker Park, we'd recommend parking there for free and walking into the city. However, there are garages available downtown and the price is $2 per hour.
Weverton Cliffs is a 2-mile round trip hike to a beautiful overlook. It's a moderate trail and there are some steep inclines at times.
For those flying into Dulles or driving up, the Udvar-Hazy Center is one of the Smithsonian museums focused on Air and Space. It's located quite close to the airport and not in Downtown Washington DC.
For those driving in for the weekend, Great Falls is one of Marla's favorite parks and walking trails. It is located 45 minutes south of the venue along the C&O Towpath and features a great view of waterfalls over the Potomac River. Visitors can enter from the Virginia side, which includes a $20 parking fee or from the Maryland side, which is free. In our opinion, the Maryland side is the prettier walk, but since parking is free, it fills up quickly and can be hard to find a spot! If visiting from the Maryland side, search for Old Angler's Inn and follow the directions to find free roadside parking nearby.
Washington DC is about an hour drive from Leesburg and Frederick. There are lots of things to see including the National Mall, presidential monuments, Smithsonian Museums, and Capitol Building. One of our favorite areas in the city is the Waterfront District.
