Mark and Oakley both go to college at BYU-Idaho. In the Spring of 2023, Mark was enrolled in a student-run business class where he was in charge of operating a restaurant on the campus with a group of other students. Unknowingly, this is how Mark and Oakley met! A couple of Mark's classmates were playing on an intramural softball team with Oakley, and the restaurant business would come to their games for catering. While there was no thought (at the time) of any romantic future, Mark remembers seeing Oakley at the softball game and thinking she was the prettiest girl he'd ever seen. Flash forward to October of 2023 and a very non-traditional first date. Mark and Oakley ended up reconnecting at school. Because of their busy schedules, they talked for about a week and a half before they met on their first date. On Mark's birthday, they both decided it was time to make time to see each other. However, Mark had a major exam due the next day that he needed to get done. So, Mark and Oakley decided that they would meet up after Mark completed his test. That night, Mark texted Oakley at 11:30pm to let her know that he was finished. Much to his surprise, Oakley texted back and told him that she still wanted to see him. So, at midnight, Mark picked Oakley up at her apartment and they started driving around Rexburg. The connection was recognized almost immediately and the conversation between them was incredible. After a couple hours of driving around, Oakley reached over and grabbed Mark's hand. After a few more hours, Mark dropped Oakley off at her apartment with a small kiss and a second date planned. As it turned out, Oakley had a date already planned for the next day with a boy that she had a crush on before she met Mark. After Oakley went out with that boy, she realized she was only interested in pursuing a relationship with Mark. He and Oakley went out on a date every day for the next week before making things official. Then, After 3 short months of dating, the two got engaged. When you know, you know. Mark and Oakley are beyond excited to get married and share their lives together. Thank you to everyone who has loved and supported them since the beginning of this short, but eternal journey.
