From Durban or Johannesburg, the roads are in good condition. About 5-10km out from the venue there are some potholes that need more attention, but it is short-lived. The entrance to the venue is dirt road but well kept. Both routes can be easily accessed with a regular vehicle. If you'd like to do more adventurous activities in the area, you may need something with slightly higher clearance.
The area is very safe and a security company has it's headquarters on the Berghaven property. The surrounding areas are also safe. For any questions about towns and areas a little further out, please contact the wedding co-ordinator whose number I am happy to give out. She will also be around all weekend for any questions.
This is a very kid friendly wedding and therefore the venue is too. Berghaven has a huge jungle gym and a swimming pool. They will have lots to do! The owner/wedding co-ordinator is a mum and teacher who has made the area kid safe. The surrounding dams will need closer supervision but staff will be close by to monitor all crowd activity.
For those staying on site, you may absolutely stay longer before the wedding, after, or both. Please email info@berghaven.co.za to secure your spot.
The mountain weather can change at a moment's notice. The days should be warm and hot and the nights can cool down to around 13 degrees so warm clothes will be needed. It's advised to always be prepared for rain! High heels are not advised as the ceremony will be in the forest and the ceremony on the lawns
There is a little convenience store for basics, and bigger stores can be found in the town of Winterton which is 20 minutes out from the venue. The trading hours are not as long as they are in the city!
Whilst South Africa seems to be free of our electricity problems, at least for the moment, there is a back up generator
Kwa- Zulu Natal is a jungle and is therefore naturally teeming with multi-legged members. There will be no snakes on the immediate property, but expect lots of little bugs. It's advised to be prepared for mosquitoes.
