Marjorie Fink

Nathan Martin

June 1, 2024

South Bend, IN

The Beginning

1996

Nate's earliest memory involved falling into the swamp when his dad had brought him along to help build the Fink's house. Marjorie's is more a conglomeration of memories than a distinct event. Running around the church, playing in the woods, going on camping trips.

An Unofficial Pact

Late Teens

During a catching up lunch in the late 2000s, teenage Nate and Marjorie decided on a rather cliche "let's get married at 30 if we're both still single" pact. This was inevitably extended to 35 once they hit their mid 20's and realized 30 wasn't all that old.

The Reconnect

Early 30's

Once Marjorie realized that maybe she didn't have commitment issues (ask Nate about the time in their late 20's when Marjorie ghosted him), Maid of Honor Alyson Greene and her began (very lightly) scheming. An upcoming family friends birthday party was the perfect opportunity to reconnect. Except for the part for Nate forgot and almost didn't show up. Thankfully, Alyson was on top of things and made sure he would stop by the party. They ended up talking and were some of the last people to leave. The next day, Marjorie texted him to keep the conversation going, with Nate inviting her to that weekends Notre Dame home game shortly after. Now, Nate just liked taking people to Notre Dame games and assumed it was as friends. That is until he picked Marjorie up from her house and she was all dolled up in a denim skirt, the only Notre Dame shirt she owned, and was actually wearing makeup (likely the biggest clue). After the game they continued talking. Going to Notre Dame home games, meeting up for lunch, walking through area parks, and browsing antique stores.

The Proposal

7.23.23

After numerus threats to propose rather publicly, Nate took Marjorie's wishes to heart and off they went to lake Michigan to cruise around in the boat. After anchoring off shore near Grand Mere beach, they relaxed on the front of the boat listening to music. While Marjorie was distracted with the views and nice breeze, Nate pulled the ring out and popped the question. With a yes and joyous cuddling, it was official. Now, for anyone who knows Nate, that extended amount of sweet behavior couldn't last, and minutes later he pushed her off the boat and into Lake Michigan. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in South Bend!
