Answer

You will be missed! If you can not make it to the wedding, please let us know as soon as possible and RSVP “no” so we can plan accordingly.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Most importantly we want everyone to look beautiful and be comfortable at our wedding. Most of our wedding day will be outdoors so please dress accordingly! Think of a summery dress and nice sandals or linen button-downs and slacks. Ties & jackets are welcome but not required. If you want to dig into it further, the vibe is 1960's sun-drenched holiday sartorial style. Think smart tailoring worn with an artful nonchalance; a Wes Anderson movie if it was an Appalachian homecoming picnic; the colorful exuberance of Oaxaca; and the carefree confidence encapsulated in movies like Roman Holiday, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and the Thomas Crown Affair (1968).

Question

Do I need a vehicle to get to the ceremony?

Answer

Yes, Township 10 is located approximately 30 minutes north of Asheville. 310 Ras Grooms Road, Marshall, NC 28753

Question

What is that colorful illustration on the invite?

Answer

On our recent travels to San Miguel de Allende we met local architect and designer Daniel Valero and spent an afternoon touring his Mestiz studio. Daniel founded Mestiz in 2015 with the desire to create stimulating pieces with a strong regional identity. Mestiz emerge from the mix of industrial and artisanal techniques with the aim to develop stimulating pieces with a theoretical background. We fell in love with his work and were fortunate enough to bring home a piece of pottery that has become a reminder of that adventure and the people we met during our travels. Marilyn contacted Daniel, and he agreed to create a textile for our wedding. True to Daniel's practice of creating “Creaturas Mestizas”-"hybrid creatures", the illustration is a rendering of our textile, “Veranera Azul". So what is it? Daniel described to us the Mexican folk art tradition of Alebrijes by creating chimera figures. The term "chimera" has come to describe any mythical or fictional creature with parts taken from various animals, to describe anything composed of very disparate parts, or perceived as wildly imaginative, implausible, or dazzling. His inspiration for our textile resulted from a hybrid of his favorite artists, the local cactus and bougainvillea in San Miguel de Allende, and the blue jay--the only bird that is located in both San Miguel de Allende and Asheville, NC. More than anything his hope is that we create our own mythology for the textile, one that will reflect our values and hopes for our home. We can think of no better beginning to that story than to serve as the backdrop to our ceremony. If you would like to view more of Daniel Valero's work you may do so at his instagram, @mestizmx
