The Aufruf (calling up) honors the bride and groom by calling them to the Torah (first five books of the Bible) for an aliyah (Torah blessing) on the Sabbath preceding their wedding. We welcome everyone to witness our being blessed in front of family and friends at Park Avenue Synagogue in anticipation of our wedding. As we leave the bimah (sanctuarial altar), we will be showered with candy, symbolizing the sweetness and joy of marriage. After the Aufruf, there is no formalized event and everyone is on their own for dinner. Please make your own plans accordingly, and let us know if you need restaurant recommendation in or around the synagogue or The University Club.
