There are not a ton of direct flights to Tucson, so if you prefer direct, your best bet is to fly into Phoenix which is under a 2 hour drive to Tucson.
The Tucson airport is about 30 minutes from the hotel locations.
Renting a car is not necessary as Uber/Lyfts are all over- it simply depends on your agenda. If you plan on camping out by the pool all day no need. If you want to explore all that Tucson has to offer, a car would be best.
