Malynda and Addison met at a 4 Under 40 Young Professionals award ceremony at the Turner Center for the Arts in Valdosta, GA. Malynda was nominated for an award. Addison was an emcee and active part of the organization that presented the award. Their first encounter was when Addison announced Malynda as an award winner.

A few months after meeting, the two reacquainted and became friends while engaging with an informal group called BYP (Black Young Professionals). They grew closer while bonding during professional events, Scandal watch parties, and game nights. Addison's job relocated to Athens, GA in November 2014, but the two decided to keep in touch. Over the months that followed, they spoke often and in summer of 2015, they started dating. They maintained a long distance relationship until 2017, when Malynda relocated to Atlanta for work. The two years that followed solidified their commitment to each other, as Addison and Malynda's connection grew and Addison developed a deeper relationship with Malynda's son, Bryce.

The couple traveled back to Valdosta on December 20, 2019 to visit family and friends for the holiday season. After manis and pedis with her friend, Jamie, the next morning (December 21), Malynda rejoined Addison and the couple went to the Turner Center (where they first met) to view a new art exhibit. About 30 minutes into their tour of the gallery, Malynda was surprised to see her immediate family, closest friends, and a professional photographer walk in. It was then that Addison proposed and Malynda said yes. Afterwards, the couple shared dinner with family and friends at the place they shared their first date, Friends.

While the couple wed during a private ceremony on Friday, July 31, 2020, they will celebrate their union with family and friends during the encore of #LegallySmith on Saturday, December 4, 2021. The couple is registered at Amazon, Walmart, and Zola.com.
