The area around the wedding venue, hotel, and Llanogrande as a whole is safe. If you choose to venture into downtown Medellín (which we highly recommend!), we advise you to move around more well-known tourist destinations and neighborhoods. Common sense safety rules apply here (i.e., don't leave your wallet/cash out in the open, don't carry jewelry/overly high dollar items on you, avoid taking passports out with you, etc.) We recommend using Uber instead of taking a taxi or public transport.
The currency in Colombia is Colombian pesos COP. Today, the conversion rate is about 4,000 COP to 1 USD. While many places accept credit card, there are also places that only accept cash so we would suggest visiting the ATM at the hotel upon arrival and having some cash on you at all times. Currency exchange at the airport is not recommended as they have more expensive rates.
If you are planning to visit for 5 days or less, we would suggest traveling into Medellin and visiting surrounding areas as there is a lot that this region of Colombia has to offer. For example, we mentioned some things on the "Medellin Guide" tab. If you are planning to visit Colombia for more than 5 days, you may want to visit another part of the country. For those that are planning to travel to other cities in Colombia, we recommend Cartagena, Bogota and surrounding areas. While these cities may look relatively close on a map it's a very long drive if you go by car. So for traveling between cities, we suggest taking a short flight.
While the water in most of Colombia is considered to be safe to drink from the tap, we encourage those traveling to drink bottled water only to avoid any sort of travel illness.
