While on a family snowmobiling trip on Lake Vermilion, Madi mentioned to her dad, Tom, that there was a cute boy at the bar. Tom wasn't one to set his daughters up, but tonight he decided to be the ultimate wing man. After continuously pestering Madi, she finally said "Fine, go get his number". So, Tom went to Matt and got his number written on a napkin. The next morning, Madi sent Matt a text apologizing for her dad being embarrassing. Little did they know, they lived and grew up 20 minutes away from each other! Their first date was at Serums in Anoka and since then, Serums has become their favorite date night spot.

The couple got engaged in Varenna, Italy on Lake Como at the base of the Italian Alps. Madi had done a lot of research to plan their travels from Milan to Lake Como, but had no idea she was planning her engagement! They were taking a picture on one of the beaches in town and before Madi was able to grab her phone back, Matt grabbed her hand and dropped to his knee. The complete stranger taking their picture was quick enough to also capture a video of the moment. They then celebrated with some traditional Italian pizza and a glass (or two) of wine.
