In 2012, Madi remembers choosing her seat in Mr. Kelly’s Marine Biology class, based on the cute boy she’d be seated next to. She introduced herself to the grumpy blonde-haired boy, asking him where he was from - and it was kismet. Naturally, things turned romantic. At 15 years old, Madi and Ki held hands in the hallways, stole glances during class, and shared secrets on Sharky’s Pier. Ki showed Madi how the plankton could glow at night in the dark water, and Madi tagged along on shark fishing expeditions. She wouldn’t kiss him until they made things “Facebook Official.” After Christmas break, to Madi’s dismay, Ki broke up with her!!! He stated that he was not ready for a serious relationship. Madi insisted they stay friends. The year ended, as did their high school romance, but what remained (whether Ki wanted it at first or not) was a friendship that would stand the test of time. As the years passed, Madi and Ki continued to be each other's constants. As Madi went off to college, Ki traveled the world - but they always remained in touch. Close friends and family questioned why things hadn’t developed romantically. Madi’s Father, Mark, has said from day one that Ki and Madi would one day end up together. Though they had agreed to be “just friends,” now and again they would both wave away romantic feelings for each other, though Ki will tell you to this day, that he loved her the whole time. We all know that in any good love story, timing is everything. In 2023, Madi found herself looking at Ki with new eyes, as if seeing him for the first time all over again. She realized that the love she had for Ki in their friendship had grown into something else. After a candlelit chicken dinner on the floor of Madi’s apartment, Madi took a leap of faith and confessed her feelings. To her delight, Ki's response mirrored her own emotions. He confessed that he, too, had been carrying a torch for her all these years. What had begun as a high school romance had blossomed into a lifelong bond, and after a decade of friendship, they had finally found their way back to each other. And so, as Madi and Ki embark on a new chapter of their journey together, they stand hand in hand, best friends first, ready to take on the world.
