How We Met

Thank you, IU Diving Camp

As luck has it, we both attended IU diving camp the same week back in 2010. Even though we probably only said one painful "hi" to each other as awkward, young teenagers do, something clicked! We kept in touch ever since that day, and got the chance to see each other once a year during summer diving meets. Truthfully, we never really built up the courage to talk in person until high school, however, we did hold a couple minute conversation once at the IUPUI natatorium (that was big for us!). As luck has it again, we both attended University of Kentucky to dive and the rest is history - we got past our built up, suspenseful fling we had for 6 years and decided to make it official in 2016. The rest is has truly been the best years of our lives! When we were trying to think about the year that we met, I (Maddie), searched up and down my facebook looking for this one, specific picture I took on the first day of IU dive camp. I finally found it - oddly enough, we met on June 25th of 2010 - here we are 12 years later planning a wedding to get married on June 25th, 2022! Coincidence? I think not. And no, that was not planned. :)

The Proposal

When I finally popped the question...

No, Maddie had no idea it was coming - but she did know December 22nd was a special date for us. We always would go out to a fancy date night on our "anniversary" of being together another year, with 2020 being no different. I planned a special night, Maddie unknowing of the really special thing about it. We drove a couple minutes down the road to Monument Circle where she knew that we had a carriage ride planned and then an Italian dinner afterwards. We got to the circle, and just so happened to have some "down time" before our carriage arrived (yes, it was planned). We walked up the stairs at the monument, and I had to find a way to distract her so that I could pull out the ring without her noticing. I pointed to random things for Maddie to look at, and luckily she fell for it. After a few seconds of looking around and spotting that our photographer was there, I had her look at something thing far up in the sky. After looking around, she turned to look at me, and I was down on one knee, ring in hand. She said yes! December 22nd now holds an even more special place in our hearts, just four years later.
