This hike climbs an impressive mountaintop, looping two miles to incredible overlook after incredible overlook. Best hike in the area for panoramic view of the Nantahala Mountains. Located just a few miles from Downtown Highlands, Glen Falls is a triple waterfall near Highlands with four great scenic stops along the roughly 2-mile round-trip hike in the Nantahala National Forest.
Sunset Rock is an ideal choice for a late afternoon stroll in the Highlands area. Beautiful sunsets can be seen over Highlands and Brushy Face Mountain to the west. The vista of Horse Cove to the east (Sunrise Rock) is also worth the walk at any time of the day. Across the street from Sunset Rock is the Highlands Botanical Gardens.
About a 35 min drive outside of Highlands, you can hike to the towering 150 ft Rainbow Falls, Turtleback Falls and Drift Falls in Gorges State park.
