Gibson and Maddie met in middle school. Gibson being from the south side of Wheaton, and Maddie from the north side, they both attended the same church youth group. Shout out to LOGOS! They would text each other occasionally using their Razor flip phones, but all it ever amounted to was a middle school crush. Fast forward to college. While Maddie and Gibson didn't go to the same school, Gibson did go to school with several of Maddie's friends from high school. So when everyone would come home from college and hang out, Gibson and Maddie would cross paths. And they seemed to keep crossing paths specifically at Allie and Hunter's St. Patrick's Day party. One thing led to another, and Gibson mustered up the courage to ask Maddie out in the spring of 2017. As awesome as the first few dates were summer quickly approached, Maddie moved to the lake, and Gibson headed to his new job in Dixon Illinois. Things fizzled out and they went their separate ways yet again. Lo and behold in March of 2020 they crossed paths again at Allie and Hunter's St. Patrick's Day party. They ended up on the same train home, where Maddie and Gibson ended up sitting right next to each other. But as luck would have it COVID was ramping up and no one was really sure what to do. Their second first date consisted of hanging out in Maddie's Elmhurst apartment doing puzzles and playing Can Jam with her roommate Maggie. Much of their first year of dating looked like this. Spending time with their roommates, going on walks to keep from going crazy, and teaching virtually from home. In April of 2023, Gibson popped the question on the river walk in St. Charles. Maddie had no idea it was coming. So much so, that depending on whose story you listen to, some say she may have given him an ultimatum at dinner less than an hour before. It was a great night spent celebrating with family and friends.
