Ironically- We met at a bar! Despite the fact that neither of us are big on going out. Fate had big plans for us as we were both pulled out by our friends to the speak-easy in El Paso, Texas. The way Colson tells this story- He saw me first, but in reality- I saw him across the room as he walked in and I thought "wow... he's pretty cute". My friend saw him too and said "wow Mac, he would totally be cute for you". He happened to stand next to me and the rest is history! We started talking a few minutes later and we never stopped. He drove all the way to Albuquerque from his parents house in Hallsville TWICE in a month so he could introduce himself to my parents and my sister before officially making me his girlfriend. He told me all about his family on our first date; pulling up pictures of the house he grew up in and sharing his memories about each one of them. He had me ready to propose to him and it had only been a month! I knew I was going to marry this incredible, thoughtful man about two weeks later when we had to nurse each other back to health after a Covid run-in. (Nothing says "forever" like surviving quarantine together). It's crazy to think that all of this came from one reluctant night out- but what a blessing it has been!
It was a rainy day in July and I was planing on asking her right when the sun went down so we could capture the moment during golden hour and then set off the fireworks shortly after. To my dismay- it was raining the whole day and it wasn't letting up. As the night went on I was checking the radar every ten minutes to to see if it was going to clear up and I saw nothing but a massive storm. Then suddenly- I checked again and the storm spilt around my parents house on the radar map like the Red Sea. I then quickly suggested we take Murphy on a walk. The whole weekend I could tell that Mackenzie knew it was happening soon, but as time went on she was losing hope that it was gong to happen on this trip. On our walk she hinted at the proposal and I told her that "I was just enjoying my life with her" and that "we had all the time in the world". As we returned from our walk in the pitch dark I could see the fairy lights set up on the stage from my little brothers wedding glowing in the distance. I thought surely Mackenzie would notice but she didn't see them until we were in the yard. As I walked her through the yard and into the pasture up to the stage, I didn't speak a word. She was gripping my hand so tight and I could hear her start to cry. Her excitement for what was fixing to happen only further solidified my love for her and I was so happy to finally do what I had been planning in my head since I met her. I got down on one knee and simply asked her to be my wife. She said yes though the happy tears streaming down her face and then we set off fireworks and took photos in the dark. I will forever Cherish the grainy photos of that magical night. We're so Excited to share our love with you when I FINALLY get to marry this girl! See you in Collinsville!
