We met at a church film shoot in 2018 but barely spoke - I had just joined the creative team as a creative project manager & he was volunteering on the film team. It wasn’t until 2019 when I was involved in more film related projects that we started becoming friends. That friendship grew that year and by the end of the year I got up the courage to ask him to hangout one on one and we both admitted we wanted to be more than friends. As we began dating little did we know that Covid-19 started spreading to the United States. We had a short period of freedom before the pandemic hit but then our lives were altered. Thankful for Marco’s car and his ability to drive to and from the Upper West Side from Brooklyn so we were able to see each other in person and not just FaceTime. As the things started going back to normal we made the most of the time we had, went on walks & plenty of day trips. We also worked on Marco’s film gear rental business & were able to grow it from a garage to a warehouse & studio space and before we knew it we just hit 4 years together this past December. We have been through some highs and some really lows but I am constantly thankful we took a chance on each other and were brave enough to say we wanted to be more than friends. I guess we both got out of the friendzone.
After finishing up the family portion of our Hawaiian vacation we had planned to visit Maui to spend some time there but the fires broke out and we quickly shifted our trip to remain on Oahu for the last part of our trip. That morning Marco had told me we were going our on a boat he had booked. We had done other excursions so I had expected it to be a group. Because I am never chill I asked him to send me a description of the boat ride just so I knew what to expect. I had thought that he might propose on this trip but I had been pretty honest with him about the fact I didn’t want the proposal to be in front of anyone. I just wanted it to be us so I didn’t think he would do it on a boat with strangers. We get some groceries because Marco told me we were cooking dinner on the boat & we got to the dock. There was no one around and at first I thought he might have gotten scammed. He told me the captain called and everyone else had cancelled. So we get on this great luxury sailboat with Captain Chris & we are off. We anchor and we go swimming for a bit off of Waikiki. After swimming I start not feeling so hot…funny thing is earlier I had been worried Marco was going to be sea sick. It was me - I was sick 2 times and was extremely grateful there was no one else on the boat. I started thinking if this is the proposal I am really messing everything up. I go and I spend the rest of the boat ride laying at the bow of the boat wrapped up in towels. Of course this would be our engagement story ha! When the sunset was happening Marco came up and sat next to me and said “I have a question for you…” and obviously then I knew for sure it was happening. Thankfully I was done being sick & we could celebrate that moment together! It was a very memorable night! We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Brooklyn!
