St. Simons Island, Georgia

covid-19 information:

Please read :)

The health and safety of our friends and family is very important to us! St. Simons Presbyterian Church has just completed a Sanctuary renovation this March! And it is beautiful! Due to COVID-19, we are required to follow certain guidelines during the wedding ceremony. All guests should wear masks (we will provide), and family units are to be distanced from others. In order to fit as many as we can with distancing in the Sanctuary, we will have designated seating. Greeters will be on the front steps of the church handing out masks and providing seating information. Name cards will be on the pews. The ceremony will have a live stream. If you prefer to watch on the live stream, please let us know so we will not include you in the Sanctuary seating. If needed, we will have an overflow area with the live stream. In addition, hand sanitizer will be available & the Sanctuary has a brand new air system. The Wedding Reception at Village Creek Landing is an outdoor venue where masks are optional. Please choose what you are comfortable with. Dinner will be a served buffet. Thank you for helping us safely celebrate during these challenging times!

Our Story

(Part 1)

Luke and I met back at the end of 2017 at two of our best friends’ (Meg & Tyler Mimbs) proposal at Epworth by the Sea on St. Simons Island. I was home from college to surprise Meg. I was also taking pictures to capture the moment. Luke was there to help keep people away from where the proposal was happening. We hardly spoke to each other at all that day, but I remember noticing him and thinking: wow, he’s cute!!! Come to find out later, Luke was thinking the same thing about me. :) A month or so later, I went off to live in Italy for my spring semester of Sophomore year, while Luke was completing his freshman year at the College of Coastal Georgia. Later that year, in the summer, we saw each other again at Meg and Tyler’s wedding. We had one very very very short conversation. I’m not even sure you could call it a conversation, haha! Luke asked me a logistical question about the wedding, and I replied with a “hm, not sure!” And that was that! I think we were both too shy and too mesmerized to say more. We definitely couldn’t stop making eye contact though! After the wedding, Luke finally worked up the courage to ask me on a date. He reached out to me and asked if I wanted to go mini golfing on Jekyll Island. I couldn’t believe the cute blonde boy from the wedding was asking me on a date. I excitedly said yes and on July 7th, just one week after the wedding, we went to play mini golf in the Georgia summer heat. Next, we went to eat dinner at Zachary’s Riverhouse. After dinner, Luke asked me if I wanted to go walk around Jekyll Island’s historic district (one of my favorite places). I told him that I would love to. This was my favorite part of the whole date. We talked for HOURS. We found a little secret spot right by the marsh where we could see the moon light up the water and look up at the clear sky full of stars. Then, we saw a firework show go off across the water in Brunswick! We always say - that moment watching the fireworks was definitely a “God wink.”

Our Story Continued

(Part 2)

After our first date, we honestly were inseparable for the rest of the summer. We kayaked, biked, went for walks on the beach and long drives in Luke’s truck, spent time with each others family and friends, etc… We both remember telling each other that summer that we felt like we had known each other for our entire lives. Then in mid-august the time came for us to say goodbye. I had to go back to Nashville for school. As I was leaving Luke told me he was in love with me. Without hesitation, I told him I loved him too. We then did almost 2 years of long distance (thankfully we got the summer together). We would take turns flying and driving 9 hours to see each other on random weekends throughout the school year. Then, almost exactly a year ago in March, the pandemic led me to move back home to St. Simons permanently. I still had school but took classes remotely. We got a lot of quality time throughout the following months, which I wouldn't trade for anything. After doing so much long distance, this time was truly a blessing for us. We were finally living in the same place. In July, for our 2 year dating anniversary, Luke took me on a date recreating our very first date: mini golfing, dinner at Zachary’s and a walk around the historic district. On our way back to St. Simons, he told me he wanted to walk around Epworth (where we first saw each other back in 2017). This didn’t surprise me, because it is one of our favorite spots and we go there all the time!! Once we were there, Luke walked me to the fountain. I heard our song playing and saw candles lit and knew something was about to happen!! Luke then said some very sweet words and got on one knee. All I could say was, “are you serious? Are you serious?!? Seriously? Wait, are you actually serious?!?!” Then through many tears, I was finally able to say the word, YES! Easiest decision ever. God is so good, and we are so excited to get married in just one month! We can’t wait to celebrate with you! - Liza
