Carol and Luke met freshman year of college in multivariable calculus class. Through mutual friends, Carol and Luke got to know each other better, became good friends and started dating in their sophomore year. After graduation, Carol took a rotational job at GE while Luke completed his masters degree. For almost 5 years, Carol and Luke were long distance while Luke lived in Ithaca, Albuquerque and Sunnyvale and Carol in Cincinnati, Albany, Houston and Atlanta. In late 2015, Carol and her dog, Aleta, moved to California to be closer to Luke.

During their trip to Patagonia, Luke and Carol trekked up to see the sunset with their W-Trek crew. After waking up at 3am to hike up a grueling trail in the dark, they arrived by 5:30 to witness a beautiful sunrise on the granite towers. Due to the hour, fierce Patagonian winds and multiple adjustments to find a warm place to snuggle against the cold, Carol was annoyed when Luke announced his need to leave to fetch a Clif Bar. To her surprise, he returned instead on one knee with a ring and asked her to marry him. A surprised and crying Carol happily said yes as Luke peeled off her "sock gloves" to place the ring on her finger.

After 10 years of dating, Carol and Luke will finally tie the knot on June 1st, 2019. They've chosen a location on the coast not far from their home in Northern California.
