Our stories are slightly different, but fate brought us together in a Volleyball PE class at Central Washington University. Bailey was frustrated at Luke's poor ability to play at times, and said some unkind words during the heat of the game. Luke took those words as flirting, and recalls her slapping his bum, which he took as his cue to act. Bailey does not recall this. Luke asked her to go out for Valentine's Day with 20 of his good friends, and she gladly accepted as he was tall, handsome, and it is her favorite holiday. He barely spoke to her, as we all know Luke is very good at until you get to know him. But she loved his friends, and went to watch his intramural soccer game the next afternoon, reluctantly. Bailey's good friends exclaimed that she had to go, "you don't have to marry him! It's a soccer game!" But after that game, they discovered they were two peas in a pod and now she has to marry him, because he is the greatest man in the universe, and her perfect team mate for the rest of her life. Plus she coached him and he is much better at Volleyball ;)
We hiked Mount Walker in the Olympic National Forest the day before our anniversary because it was about all we had time and money for. Bailey was extremely tired and did not want to go. Luke was overly excited to go hiking, that should have been her first clue. It was the first clear sunny day we had all winter, so it was a breathtaking view. Bailey complained the whole hike, but at the top Luke popped the question and it became the best hike ever! She was completely surprised, as was the family. In true Luke form, he kept the secret to himself so that he could give Bailey the best surprise exactly 5 years after he asked her to be his date for Valentines Day.
