We met on Lower Bay beach on the island of Bequia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines. It was Easter, which is a long and festive weekend on the island. Lucia went to the island with her medical school classmates for the weekend before exams. Sheldon had traveled down from Canada to St. Vincent for summer vacation from Ryerson University and was looking forward to reuniting with some of his friends and enjoy the Easter festivities. Both of our groups of friends settled on the same area on the beach. Before the party started, a mutual friend introduced us to each other. The day was hot and the water was refreshing so we went into the water together. As soon as our fingers touched in the water a spark ignited in both of us and this is where our love story began. After completing the first two years of basic sciences courses on St. Vincent, Lucia moved to Washington D.C. to complete clinical rotations for medical school and after graduation moved back to Miami, FL where she started working in clinical research. Sheldon went back to Toronto, Canada to complete his studies at Ryerson University and moved back to St. Vincent after graduation to help manage the family business. During the next nine years, our love kept growing despite the distance between us. On May 29th, 2019, we went on a trip to Bequia. After a morning of snorkeling around Lower Bay and Princess Margaret, we were getting back on shore and Sheldon claimed to have found something in the water. He asked me to open the small plastic bag only to find a screw wrapped in a piece of napkin. The napkin read “Will you marry me?” When I looked up, Sheldon was on one knee and had pulled a gorgeous ring out of his swim trunks.
