Lucas saw Jenson playing cello and singing at Naked Angels (a weekly theater gathering). "Holy Hannah, who the f@#k is that," he said to himself, "if she'll have me, I'm done." He felt confident enough that night to buy her a drink after the show and waited 15 minutes for the slow bartender. After drinking that glass of wine, Jenson lifted her shirt and slapped her belly. Lucas said, "That's weird. I like it." They walked to the subway together. Jenson threw her head up at the sky and gave a belly laugh. Lucas repeated to himself, "If she will have me. I am done. I want that laugh forever." He asked her out for dinner that night. She said yes. Then she canceled. He asked her out again. She said yes. Then she canceled. Then she wrote a heartfelt response, and Lucas obsessed over her for ten months. That summer, Lucas brought a date to the Bowery Poetry Club to see Jenson perform at Shawn Randall's "Symphonics Live." Jenson did not like the sight of Lucas' hand on his date's lower back. Lucas wrote a script about a psychic cellist and sent it to Jenson for review.* She liked it. Two months later, Jenson gave Lucas a psychic reading after a show at Naked Angels. She felt his heart in her hand and said to herself. "I think I love his soul. I don't want anybody else up on him. He's mine." One week later, Jenson told Lucas she liked his face. Lucas wondered if she was toying with him. A week after that, she asked him if he'd like to put on fake tattoos with her. Lucas said yes? They set a date to apply fake tattoos post Andrew Elvis Miller's going away party. That night they kissed. They did not put on tattoos. 11 months later, back at the Bowery Poetry Club, with the help of Shawn Randall, April Rose Gabrielli and Estelle Bajou, Lucas surprised Jenson by proposing to her. She said yes. Then COVID-19 hit. They learned how to live together. They still want to get married. Shawn Randall will officiate. *Ballsy move. Could have gone either way.
