How We Met

Another STP Couple! - Summer 2014

Though Logan and I had met briefly and interacted in a Christmas play a few months before, we really became friends over the "Daniel" play at Spiritual Twist Productions in Summer of 2014. I was stage-directing. Logan was playing "Daniel." He ended up always being on my side of the wings, Stage Right side. Whenever he had a few moments to spare, Logan would always come up to me and ask how I was doing or if I needed anything. I thought that this was super sweet, as being the lead character he had a ton resting on his shoulders. But he was always looking out for me, and a great natural and close friendship sprung up between us that Summer. Though we were involved in different STP classes, and completely different areas of life, whenever Logan and I would see each other, we could always pick up right where we had left off. We would reconnect and become very close, and then would slowly drift apart as life pulled us in different directions. But we always managed to see each other occasionally, and he was always looking out for me as he had done in Summer of 2014. We were always there for each other - always had each other's backs. Summer of 2017 brought us both back to STP to perform in another run of "Daniel." That Summer we grew close again, and pretty quickly. He was transitioning back to Wake Tech from NC State and was feeling a little lost. There were a lot of hard things going on for me in the relationship department, and I sought out his carefree, fun, and calm personality and our late-night conversations. When we stayed close even after our two Summer and Fall shows were done, I began to wonder if there was more there than friendship... After much anxiety and wondering, I finally told God, "I lay this at your feet. I need to stop trying to figure it out. You know what's going on here, and I am going to be content with whatever you want for my life." The next day, Logan asked me out on our first date. And the rest is history. :-)

How He Proposed

"A Beach Trip? In December? In the Rain?"

That's what I said when Logan asked me to take a spontaneous day trip to the beach with him on Saturday, 12/1/2018. It seemed like a hassle to move things around just to go to a rainy beach. But Logan really wanted to go, and we both love beach trips, so I reluctantly agreed. I was a little suspicious that he might propose that day, knowing he had talked to my dad recently. But I tried to talk myself out of it, knowing it would be almost impossible to get a ring in my size in just a few days, and I didn't want to expect it. Before going to the Fort Fischer Aquarium we decided to take a quick walk on the beach in the rain. It was so beautiful, peaceful, and romantic. I thought, "If he was going to propose today, he should be doing it right now. This is perfect." Little did I know that Logan was thinking exactly the same thing, but had left the ring in the car intending to propose later! He almost went back to get it! We went to the aquarium, then to the boardwalk at Carolina Beach. We danced in a portico in the rain, talked, laughed, watched the Christmas lights and waves, and waited for our reservation at "Havana's." Again, I was thinking, "It's beautiful out here. If he was going to propose today, it would be right now, not in front of a ton of strangers at a restaurant." And he didn't, so I assumed that it really wasn't happening. Well, Logan had gotten us a reservation in a private room. I was thinking, "Wait, is this it?" We were both trying to eat but were visibly nervous. Logan finally said, "I actually have something I want to talk about." He told me how much our relationship meant to him. How much we've grown together. How we'd only been dating for a year but it felt like a lifetime in the best way. And how he wanted this to continue forever. He knelt down, pulled out the ring, and asked me to marry him. I was freaking out so much that I forgot to say yes for a few minutes! The whole restaurant staff celebrated with us. It was wonderful and perfect!
