We met online through OkCupid. We matched and began chatting right away near the end of January 2016. I was surprised and excited when Logan offered to pick me up for our first date. We had sushi then drinks after where we talked about our time abroad, among many other things. Neither of us wanted the night to end. We ended up talking until past three in the morning. We texted almost daily after that and had many more great dates, including our first Valentine's. By the time Logan's birthday came in April we were inseparable and have pretty much stayed that way ever since.
After a few top-secret trips "golfing with Dad," the ring was picked out and picked up. Everything was set. I just needed a time and a place for the proposal. I decided on the third anniversary of our first date - January 30th. As for the place, I thought McCord Park, where we spent some of our early time together, would be perfect. We agreed on a restaurant to celebrate the anniversary, and I planned to simply ask her if she wanted to take a walk after dinner. As we no longer lived next to McCord Park, and rarely went there anymore, my brilliant idea was to suggest a walk at Lake Ella, a more frequent destination for us, and only to turn off towards the Apartment Complex next to McCord Park, during which I would ask, "why not here instead?" It would seem spontaneous and not at all suspicious. What I foolishly failed to anticipate was that after asking if a walk at Lake Ella sounds good, Anna would respond, "Eh.. Not really." I guess taking a walk after 8 p.m. with the temperature in the 40's isn't such an amazing thing after all. Alarm bells ringing in my head, wondering what to do next, I decided go through with it anyway. Forget trying to completely surprise her, as I'm sure she would have figured it out anyway. I pulled into the Apartment Complex, we walked our normal walk, and although she definitely suspected something was up, seeing her face (as much as I could in the near complete darkness) after I pulled out the ring, made my doubts go away. All of the pressure for everything to be flawless and off-the-cuff disappeared, because the only thing that mattered was right in front of me.
On our third anniversary we went for a nice dinner at Clusters and Hops. As we were leaving Logan suggested we go for a walk around Lake Ella. I was hesitant at first because it was a little chilly since the sun had set but agreed to if he really wanted. Once we were on our way I became suspicious but excited. I was not expecting it until i knew where we were going. We parked at our old apartment and walked the back trail to Guyte McCord park. We sat on the wooden swing and talked about the evening briefly before Logan got down on one knee and asked me to be his! I said "Yes, of course!" and he placed the ring on my finger. We were overcome with joy and excitement, ready to truly become one.
