One of our favorite hikes (and a quick drive from Southwest Harbor)! It looks over Somes Sound and is 2.5-4.5 miles. There are a few varieties to this hike depending on how long you would like to be out, we love doing the St. Sauveur loop... but returning via the Man-O-War Brook Trail is beautiful as well! *Moderate*
Another iconic Acadia hike! This trail is difficult and generally very crowded (go early!), but the views are worth it! Not recommended if it is wet out, you are scared of heights or if you forgot your hiking shoes. *Difficult* You will need a park pass for this hike: https://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/fees.htm
Sargent is a great, LONG hike (though it can be made a bit shorter by doing an out and back rather than a loop). It has great views of the park and a lake up towards the top! *Moderate-Difficult* You will need a park pass for this hike: https://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/fees.htm
Swim, rent a boat or walk around Long Pond! There are also a few fun spots to jump off of cliffs, text Liza if you need any recommendations or suggestions on where to go.
The tallest mountain on MDI (and the first place in the U.S. that you can see the sun rise)! We love to start with the Gorge trail and come down the North Ridge. *Moderate-Difficult* You will need a park pass for this hike: https://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/fees.htm You can also drive to the top :)
Looking for a relatively quick workout? Granite steps will take you right up to the top of Mansell mountain (about a mile up) where you can then take either the Razorback trail down or the Mansell Mountain Trail, both of which lead to the Cold Brook Trail and back to your car at the pump house. The views of Long Pond to start are beautiful and the view at the top is great, but make sure you stop at the big overlook at the top of the last set of stairs - the summit is in the woods. *Difficult due to stairs for the first mile*
Not for the faint of heart! This trail is the hardest on the Island with ladders, a boulder field and cliff walks but is incredible with views the whole way up. If you are not EXTREMELY confident in your fitness/hiking abilities, it is wet out, your shoes are lacking treads or you are terrified of heights we recommend picking another hike (wedding reception dancing > hiking precipice). Beehive is a similar but slightly less strenuous option. Check to be sure its open before you plan to hike it! *Difficult* You will need a park pass for this hike: https://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/fees.htm
