Intercessor of Our Relationship
Pier Giorgio was engaged in the life of the Church through regular worship and adoration, service to the poor and marginalized, advocacy for social justice for the disenfranchised and for religious liberty, regular participation in student activities, devotion to his family, and joyful companionship with his friends and fellow Catholics in his community. He saw many parallels between Catholic life and his favorite pastime, mountain-climbing. He would regularly organize trips into the mountains with his close friends with occasions for prayer, liturgies, and conversations about faith on the way up to or down from the summit.
Intercessors of our wedding
Zélie Guerin and Louis Martin both initially wanted to become religious, but were denied by the communities they approached. Zélie began to make lace, and Louis, watches. They married just three months after they met, intending to stay celibate. However, guidance from a spiritual director encouraged them to enter fully into married life. Of the nine children they had, five grew to adulthood and entered convents. Their youngest is St. Thérèse of Lisieux. They are only the second married couple to be canonized.
DJ's Confirmation Saint
St. Stephen was the first Christian martyr, whose apology before the Sanhedrin (Acts of the Apostles 7) points to a distinct strand of belief in early Christianity. His defense of his faith before the rabbinic court enraged his Jewish audience, and he was taken out of the city and stoned to death. His final words, a prayer of forgiveness for his attackers (Acts of the Apostles 7:60), echo those of Jesus on the cross (Luke 23:34).
Elizabeth's Confirmation Saint
St Cecilia was a noble Roman who, as a child, had vowed her virginity to God. When she was married against her will to the future saint Valerian, then a pagan, she told him that an angel of God wished her to remain a virgin. He promised to respect this wish if he were allowed to see the angel. She replied that he would if he were baptized. On his return from baptism he found Cecilia talking to the angel. She then converted his brother Tiburtius, who also saw the angel. Both men were martyred before she was. She distributed her possessions to the poor, which enraged the prefect Almachius, who ordered her to be burned. When the flames did not harm her, she was beheaded.
Maid of Honor
From first day of high school band camp, through nursing school, to now working at the same hospital Jackie has been by Liz's side. She's got the best life advice and the worst pictures of Liz.
Best Man
Stephen Bartels is DJ’s little brother and best friend. Playing sports, going to K-State football games, as well as being in the same fraternity, there is little these two haven’t done without the other one.
