They first met on a dating app 8 years ago. Marissa actually sent Chris the first message and hadn't heard back from him for a long time. When Chris finally replied to the message they talked for a couple of days before their first official date at Nama Sushi in Pleasant Hill. Marissa: "I remember getting to the date early and he was already inside with a table ready. It was definitely the last time he was ever early for anything but I was already hooked! He was such a gentleman pulling out my chair, paying for the BIG sushi order we placed and the cutest part was he kept forgetting to look at the menu to order so the waiter came by probably 3 or 4 times. I will never forget what he was wearing, a purple V-neck that he accidentally spilled water on and I thought it was so cute. After that we began to build and grow our relationship very quickly and I moved in with him after a year of dating, the rest is history!" Chris: "I was there that night at Nama about 10 minutes before Marissa arrived. She walked in, and it felt like I sprung up and immediately started stumbling over to meet her at the door, out of unconfident eagerness to impress her. As I guided her to the table I’m thinking, “I hope she doesn’t notice I am a nervous wreak!” Dressed in her signature look to this day, a sweater and black yoga leggings, and my 20 year old self, in my only semi-nice shirt at the time, a purple v neck. We sat down, and I continued to make a fool of myself as I forget to order and spill water all over. Uh oh. She’s starting to notice. Luckily, I found the perfect woman. She did not care. Not at all. I could be comfortable. I could be myself. I felt an immediate calm and familiarity to her. Like I was meant to meet her. Since that day I haven’t looked back. I know we are meant to be.”

As we all know too well, this proposal was something out of story book. Once Chris asked for my hand in marriage we went ring shopping to just look around but I ended up finding the ring of my dreams. Chris secured the bag and then started plotting with our friends and family on how to do the perfect proposal. Chris: "Once I bought the ring, I knew I had to move quick. But that didn’t stop me from having my fun. I let her know that she would never know when I would propose, that it could’ve even been the next year! But I couldn’t wait either. Immediately, I started planning with Marissa’s sister Madi and her mom Erica. Madi and Erica spent hours decorating our apartment while I distracted Marissa, taking her to a small family get together at my dads house for our birthdays. Afterwards, Marissa thought the night was over. She walked into our apartment that night disappointed, but immediately saw all the hard work Madi and Erica did. A big MARRY ME light-up sign, printed pictures of memories together, crystals, music, and tons of rose pedals and tea lights everywhere. It was so impressive. I am so lucky to have proposed to Marissa like that. I will never forget that smile she made that night. I told her she would never know.” Marissa: "I obviously knew getting engaged was in our near future. I wanted to lock Chris down basically as soon as we started dating, I just knew he was always the one for me, my other half. He completely orchestrated the whole plan with the help of my mom and sister while we were at his Dad's house for our birthday dinner. I had a feeling it was going to happen when we went to dinner but t 10pm I thought ok the day is done and I am tired. SURE ENOUGH when I walked into our apartment it was everything and more that I could have every asked for and beyond! It's weird I had dreamed of this day for years, the official proposal and yet it still hasn't set in for me! I am beyond blessed and grateful for the life I have with my future Husband!"
