Hunter and I first met in college in Duluth, MN. Instantly attracted to him when I first saw him in the dormitory lobby, the appeal grew stronger as I overheard him fluently conversing in Spanish. Fate finally brought us together two years later on a winter break trip with my friends Francisca and Jalieen as he joined us to carpool back to the cities. Those three hours driving back home turned into my favorite ride ever, butterflies in my stomach were on overdrive as I chatted with him the whole ride home. Later that year, we reconnected at the university library. Hunter, who worked there, offered to tutor me in physics, the hardest subject for me. That time spent hanging out uncovered mutual feelings, eventually leading to Hunter asking me out on a first date. The rest, you could say, is our love story written by destiny.

Hunter y yo nos conocimos por primera vez en la universidad en Duluth, Minnesota. Atraída instantáneamente por él cuando lo vi por primera vez en el lobby del dormitorio, la atracción se hizo más fuerte cuando lo escuché hablar español. El destino finalmente nos reunió dos años después cuando mis amigas Fracisca y Jaileen le dijeron que podrían darle raite a Maple Grove. Esas tres horas de regreso a casa en el carro se convirtieron en mi viaje de carro favorito, las mariposas en mi estómago estaban a toda marcha mientras charlaba con él durante todo el viaje. Un año después, nos volvimos a encontrar en la biblioteca de la universidad. Hunter, que trabajaba allí, se ofreció a ayudarme con una materia de la escuela difícil para mí. Ese tiempo que pasamos estudiando reveló sentimientos mutuos, lo que finalmente llevó a Hunter a invitarme a salir a nuestra primera cita. El resto, se podría decir, es nuestra historia de amor escrita por el destino.

After graduating from UMD, Hunter and I headed out to Spain. We were both very fortunate to get accepted into our masters program of choice. Our time in Spain unfolded to be one of the best years of our lives, allowing us to explore 8 different countries and a countless number of cities, an experience beyond our wildest dreams. We made connections with wonderful people, learned so much about other cultures, and shared a few of these experiences with friends and family who came to visit us. Following Spain, we cherished three months at Hunter's parents house before spending a year in Rochester. In Rochester, we spent a short and lovely time with our dog Indigo. He was the cutest and most loving dog we could have asked for. Fast forward to today and we find ourselves living at my parents house in Buffalo. We’re excited about the uncertainty and adventure of our long future together.

Después de graduarnos de la UMD, Hunter y yo nos dirigimos a España. Ambos fuimos muy afortunados de ser aceptados en el programa de maestría que elegimos. Nuestro tiempo en España resultó ser uno de los mejores años de nuestras vidas, permitiéndonos explorar 8 países diferentes y un sinnúmero de ciudades, una experiencia más allá de nuestros sueños más locos. Hicimos conexiones con personas maravillosas, aprendimos mucho sobre otras culturas y compartimos algunas de estas experiencias con amigos y familiares que pudimos visitarnos. Después de España, disfrutamos tres meses en la casa de los padres de Hunter antes de pasar un año en Rochester. En Rochester, pasamos un tiempo breve y encantador con nuestro perro Índigo. Era el perro más lindo y cariñoso que pudimos haber pedido. Hoy en día nos encontramos viviendo en la casa de mis padres en Buffalo. Estamos entusiasmados con la incertidumbre y la aventura de nuestro largo futuro juntos.

All I remember is not knowing anything Hunter had said to me when he got on one knee and pulled out The Ring. It was on a morning run to Ocean Park Beach that Hunter carried the ring in his shorts. How he hid the ring box without it being noticeable is still a mystery to me! Never would I have imagined that a trip to Puerto Rico would have turned out to be the best of my life. As we made it to the end of the sandy beach, we set a goal to stop our run by some big rocks to watch the sun rise. Instead, I had the best surprise of my life moments after we’d stopped and Hunter went down to propose. An overwhelming wave of emotion swept over me, drowning out his words. The indescribable feelings in that moment were truly once in a lifetime. Thank goodness I pushed through my morning sleepiness and joined that run. Believe me, I was very close to skipping it, not in the mood for a workout at the crack of dawn. But of course, I said YES to him! I would have said yes to him since the day I met him.

Todo lo que recuerdo es no saber nada de lo que Hunter me había dicho cuando se arrodilló y sacó el anillo. Fue en una mañana que fuimos a correr a la playa de Ocean Park que Hunter llevaba el anillo en sus shorts. ¡Cómo escondió la caja del anillo sin que se notara sigue siendo un misterio para mí! Nunca hubiera imaginado que el viaje a Puerto Rico hubiera resultado ser el mejor de mi vida. Cuando llegamos al final de la arena de la playa, nos propusimos dejar de correr junto a unas rocas grandes para ver salir el sol. Sin embargo, me lleve la mejor sorpresa de mi vida, momentos después de que paramos, Hunter bajó para proponerme matrimonio. Una abrumadora ola de emoción me invadió, que no escuche nada de lo que me dijo. Los sentimientos indescriptibles en ese momento fueron realmente únicos en la vida. Gracias a Dios se me quitó el sueño que tenía y pude acompañar lo a correr ese día. Créanme, estuve muy cerca de no ir, no tenía ganas de hacer ejercicio ese amanecer. Pero claro, le dije que ¡SÍ! Le habría dicho que sí desde el día que lo conocí.
