Lisa's Version The first time I met Alex, I don't think I said more than two words to him. We were in the lobby of the midtown office building where we both worked. My friend and former co-worker had invited me to a birthday lunch and she had invited some of her new co-workers, including Alex. When the lunch was over, we both went our separate ways. Years later, we both found ourselves newly single and navigating the dating world via the aps. Alex had liked my profile and we began messaging. We soon discovered we had a mutual friend and had met before. Alex and I planned to meet for a dinner date, but he canceled on me the day before, and that was that. A few months go by, I was going for a jog in the park and noticed a 10K was happening around me. In the distance I see our mutal friend and decided to run with her to the finish line. She had mentioned she had signed up for the race with Alex, and I could go and say hi. Still bitter from him previously canceling on me, I decided to turn around and run home instead. A year later, Alex started work at my firm. I decided to let sleeping dogs lie and went over to his desk to welcome him. During the upcoming weeks we became fast friends and would talk and chat with each other throughout the work day. We started playing tennis together after work and on our days off. I realized we had a connection and one day I asked if he wanted to go out for drinks after work and the rest is history. Alex's Version It was a sunny afternoon in November 2018 when we first met. It was my friend Meredith’s birthday and she asked me if I wanted to go to lunch with her and some of her old coworkers from Cherry Bekaert to celebrate. Never one to say no to lunch, and also kind of interested to meet her old coworkers, I gladly accepted. Little did I know that this would be the first time I ever met Lisa. Fast forward a year and freshly single and ready to mingle, I saw a cute girl on a dating app that was a CPA just like me. I messaged her and we agreed to go out for dinner for tacos in Midtown. Unknowingly, this was the same girl I had gone to lunch with a year earlier at Meredith’s birthday. Being the dummy I am, I canceled the date, never expecting to hear from Lisa again… Another year later, around fall 2020, I went to go work for Lisa’s firm. I was hoping that our canceled date was water under the bridge. We hit it off at work and started playing tennis together. Actually, Lisa was the one that asked me to play tennis one night after work and being the competitive tennis player I am, I happily accepted. A few weeks went by and I invited my friend Meredith over for boozy art one night (where you drink wine and paint bad pictures). She was with Lisa and I said she should come too. So I got a little drunk, flirted pretty poorly, and the rest is history…
