Question

My save the date only mentions the October 19 date.

Answer

Due to limited seating, only a select number of people are invited to the Tamil Hindu ceremony on October 18, 2024. Your Save the Date will either include both the Tamil Hindu Ceremony and American Ceremony dates or just the American Ceremony date.

Question

What time should I arrive to the ceremonies?

Answer

Please arrive 15-20 minutes early to ensure there is enough time to park and find your seat prior to the ceremony beginning.

Question

Do I need to RSVP?

Answer

Yes, we kindly request that all guests RSVP by September 21, 2024. At this time, we are not collecting RSVPs, until official invitations are mailed in August/September. You can do this by visiting the "RSVP" section of our website, or by sending us an email or returning the RSVP card provided with your invitation.

Question

WHAT IS A TAMIL HINDU CEREMONY?

Answer

Tamil weddings are based around the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism (the Vedas), but also incorporate a modern touch for both the bride and groom. Typically, a priest determines the date or month the couple should be married by looking at auspicious dates within the Hindu calender.

Question

HOW LONG IS A TAMIL WEDDING CEREMONY?

Answer

Typically, a Tamil wedding ritual lasts about 2 hours. After the ceremony, lunch will be served at the temple.

Question

Will your wedding be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The Tamil Hindu ceremony will be inside the temple. For the American Christian ceremony, weather permitting, ceremony and cocktail hour will be outside. Please note, ceremony will be in a grassy area. Reception and dinner will be inside.

Question

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO THE TAMIL WEDDING CEREMONY?

Answer

At Tamil weddings, most women (including their non-Tamil guests) wear traditional sarees, and sometimes have their hair tied in a bun or braided with flowers. Men from the immediate family wear white dhotis (traditional men's garment) and a white shirt with a golden border. Other male guests are required to wear formal wear. For both men and women, gold is very common. If you are attending a Tamil wedding, try avoid wearing black, it is seen as bad luck.

Question

What should I wear to the American ceremony?

Answer

Semi-formal wedding attire, such as midi dresses, maxi-dresses, wrap dresses, cocktail dresses, pantsuits, and jumpsuits. For men, button-down dress shirt and dress pants.
