We met at a time when you weren't supposed to be meeting people. We met during Covid at our friends Alex and Katie's house playing charades. While I had immediate attraction to Jimmy, Jimmy on the other hand saw a room full of people, some he did not know and thought " Ugh more people I don't know". He didn't talk much but I engaged in conversation with him from time to time. What really caught Jimmy's attention was the fact that I could actually talk about sports, mainly football, know what I was talking about and keep a conversation about it. The following week I was going to a Casino with those same friends for a fun night out. Alex called Jimmy to invite him along which he quickly declined as he had pizza and beer waiting for him at the house coming off of his shift at Olde Tyme Grocery. Alex told him that I would be coming along as well which is when he changed his mind and quickly got ready. Once arriving at the Casino we were quickly ditched to spend some one on one time together to get to know each other. I reached for Jimmy's hand to test the waters, if he holds my hand great he's interested, if he lets go well then I have my answer. Jimmy did not let go of my hand the rest of then night and from then on we talked every single day. We went out on our first date a week later and made it "Facebook official " on August 16th, 2020.
September 17th, 2022 was Jimmy's 30th birthday and a big one to celebrate. The weekend before his birthday the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim ( makes zero sense but what do I know) was playing the Houston Astros in Houston for a 3 game series. Being as how I converted him in to an Angels fan a couple months prior when we went home to California for my sister's wedding this seemed like a no brainer event to go to for his birthday. We would be getting into Houston the Friday night and going to the game Saturday where his favorite player Ohtani would be pitching and my favorite player Trout would be coming off of an injury and playing. Leading up to the game day I was asking Jimmy what he would like to do during the day to pass the time until the game started. The only thing he told me to plan was brunch at one of the local restaurants. The week of our planned trip I found this park called the discovery green not too far from where we were going to be having brunch and found a portion of the park called the Lindsey Gardens and asked if he wanted to check it out. He said we could definitely check it out and it was close by the stadium. The morning of game day comes and we get to the restaurant, order our drinks and food and are just enjoying each other's company. I ask him if he is in any kind of hurry to be anywhere and he said no we can take as much time as we want so I order another drink which takes about 30 minutes to get to the table. So I go to use the restroom and come out to him chugging my drink down. I said " I thought we weren't in a hurry why are you chugging my drink"?! He said he might want to go check out the park and he didn't think my drink would take that long so he was helping me out! So we walked over to the park and looked at all the sights and finally got to the Lindsey Garden which had a dock in the middle of a pond with all kinds of fish in it ( he knows I love ponds, lakes, any body of water outside). I was too distracted by the fish to notice Jimmy looking up at the apartments that face the pond every 10 seconds. When he was ready he hugged me and gave me a kiss and went on to let me know how much I mean to him, how much he loves me, how excited he is about our future together and our life together. I still had no idea anything was up because this is how we talk to each other all the time, it wasn't until he started the next sentence with " Which is why.." that I realized what was happening. He got down on one knee on that dock and asked me to marry him. I emotionally blacked out and I guess was taking too long to answer which was making Jimmy nervous haha. Of course I said yes and was trying to control my ugly crying when I heard cheers and clapping somewhere near by. Jimmy said "I don't know if you can see but there's a bunch of people up on that balcony waving to us". I said "I don't have my glasses on so it's hard to see, who is it"? He then said " Maybe you should Facetime your mom". Sure enough he sneakily texted my mom, dad, sister, brother in law, his mom, dad, sister and his sister's friend who lives in Houston whose apartment they were at ( Shoutout Michelle!) and they were able to be there and witness the whole thing! He then surprised me with the fact that all of us were going to the game not just us two and then surprised me again with my own custom jersey with my favorite number and future last name on the back! So he made a weekend that was supposed to be all about him and flipped it to be all about us and our engagement! I said yes to forever with my best friend on September 10th, 2022!
