Lindsay was all set to go to a "girls dinner" at 8pm. My plan was to propose in our apartment when she got home from work. I prepared all day lining the floor of our apartment with flower petals, placing candles everywhere and had our favorite wine on the counter. After proposing, I was going to tell her that the dinner she was planning on attending was fake and that we were going to Hanoi House (HH) with my family. In reality, I rented out HH for that evening and a small group of friends were there ready to surprise Linds when she walked in. On the day of the proposal, I received a text that threw everything into a tailspin…"I'm going to go to SoulCycle straight from work and then to dinner with the girls"…. After hours of scheming with some friends the panic wore off and I responded to her with something super clever, “Please come home for a drink first, I bought a nice bottle of wine 😊”…….. She of course said no. After going back and forth several times, she agreed to come home, but it wasn’t a total success because I completely ticked her off in the process. With that, I couldn’t then ask her for an ETA so from 2pm onward I was ready to propose the moment she walked in. Fast forward 4 hours later and I’ve gotten down on a knee 17 times and kept thinking she was about to enter. Finally, at 6:45pm, I heard the door opening and hid around the corner on my knee. When she turned the corner she immediately burst into tears and made me truly speechless. Like actually speechless, I said nothing other than “SoulCycle?!?!” and just put the ring on her finger. Facetime made it a little challenging to pull off the second part of the surprise so a new “no cell phone, live in the moment” rule was implemented. When we were getting close to HH I had the Uber drop us off a block away so that she wouldn’t see everyone in the restaurant waiting. The moment we walked into a big “Surprise!!”, Lindsay started shaking and it was something I’ll never forget and always cherish.
