José and I both grew up in the same small town, went to the same high school and the same university. I remember meeting him in high school a few times because I was friends with his brother, however there was nothing more than a friendly hello shared between us through all those years. The true beginning to our relationship was when we were reintroduced to each other at a New Year's Eve party hosted by his brother and sister-in-law in 2017. Shortly after the party, José and I went on our first date; and by Valentine's Day, I knew I had something special that I did not want to let go of.
We both grew up in the same small town of Atwater. Although we shared some friends, we remained as loose acquaintances at best. (Which is another way of saying he doesn't remember me. - Kaitlyn) We had no idea that destiny would bring us together years after we had both had adventures of our own. Having started a new job, in a new city I was looking to meet people and make friends so when my brother invited me to his New Year's Eve party I jumped on the opportunity to attend. At the party, I met Kaitlyn. We had a laugh about how I didn't remember her, but more importantly I was captivated by her smile so much so that I decided to pursue a date.
Kaitlyn introduced José to her love of Disney and since starting their relationship Disney locations have been their go-to vacation destinations. José knew for that reason that Disneyland would a magical place to propose. But where in Disneyland? And when? Kaitlyn being the planner that she is, filled their schedule from start to finish so it was difficult for José to find a moment to spare. As soon as the opportunity presented itself, José suggested a ride on the Mark Twain Riverboat; which he knew would be a quiet place that they could share an intimate moment together. As soon as they got on the boat José navigated to find the perfect place to ask a Cast Member to take their photo. At that moment, Kaitlyn new something was up because José hates having his picture taken. Trembling with anticipation, and doing everything he could to not drop the ring in the water, José bent down on one knee and asked Kaitlyn "Will you do me the pleasure of marrying me?" Brimming with excitement Kaitlyn said yes, but not before she quickly turned the ring case right-side up so the ring wouldn't fall off the boat.
