Things To Do

Here are some of the places we visited on our first trip to São Paulo!
Avenida Paulista

Avenida Paulista

Avenida Paulista, Bela Vista, São Paulo, SP, Brazil

Best experienced on Sunday when the entire avenue is closed and is converted into a long city park where musicians, food carts, and all the locals gather for a feast at São Paulo's most iconic thoroughfare.

La Guapa - Empanadas Craft & Café

There are multiple of these restaurants around the city, so be specific! This one actually took us a long time to find because it is located INSIDE a bookstore on the second floor. It is owned by an Argentinian chef who is a judge on Brazilian Master Chef!

Mequi 1000 - McDonald's

Mequi 1000 - McDonald's

1811 Avenida Paulista, Bela Vista, SP 01311-200, Brazil

Okay so we realize that a Mcdonald's usually isn't something you'd put on a local sightseeing tour, but this one is. It's just so ridiculous that you have to visit at least once. Also, the menu here features some Brazilian exclusives!

Mercado Municipal de São Paulo

Mercado Municipal de São Paulo

306 Rua da Cantareira, Centro Histórico de São Paulo, SP 01024-900, Brazil
, +55 11 4580-1390

The Mercadão was inaugurated on January 25, 1933, and it is a gastronomic space with beautiful architecture. The variety of Mercadão Restaurants attracts thousands of people daily to the place. It is the perfect place to shop for local goodies and try exotic fruits from all over the globe.

Japan House São Paulo

Japan House São Paulo

52 Avenida Paulista, Bela Vista, São Paulo, SP 01310-900, Brazil
, +55 11 3090-8900

Prominently located on Paulista Avenue, Japan House São Paulo was designed by an eminent Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. It holds a facade of 70-year-old hinoki, Japanese cypress, and mesh covered with handmade washi paper, allowing visitors to feel the fine touch of traditional Japanese techniques. Since its opening in April 2017, Japan House São Paulo has reached 2 million visitors as of February 2020, and it has become one of the major cultural facilities in the city.

Igrejinha Bar

Igrejinha Bar

Rua Fernando de Albuquerque, 302, Consolação, São Paulo, SP 01309-030

LGBTQ+ friendly. All of Augusta (the name of the burrow where this bar is located) can be considered São Paulo's LGBTQ+ district. This is to São Paulo what Capital Hill is to Seattle!

Rua Oscar Freire

Rua Oscar Freire

Rua Oscar Freire, Jardim Paulista, SP, Brazil

Shopping, shopping, and more shopping. São Paulo's equivalent to 5th Ave in New York City. If you're looking to spend some reais this is the place to do it! https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionsNear-g303631-d9724022-Rua_Oscar_Freire_Shopping_Street-Sao_Paulo_State_of_Sao_Paulo.html

Municipal Theatre of São Paulo

Municipal Theatre of São Paulo

s/n Praça Ramos de Azevedo, República, São Paulo, SP 01037-010, Brazil
, +55 11 3053-2100

Built in 1905 in the style of the Paris Opera, the magnificent Municipal Theater is the home of Rio's opera, orchestra and ballet. Its lavish interior contains many beautiful details – including the stage curtain painted by Italian artist Eliseu Visconti that features portraits of 75 major figures from the arts, such as Carlos Gomes, Wagner and Rembrandt. Guided multilingual tours lasting 45 minutes are offered from Tuesday to Friday (at noon, 2:30pm and 4pm) and on Saturday (at 11am, noon, 1pm and 4pm). Call ahead to confirm availability of an English-speaking guide. It's also well worth coming for a performance.

Gula Gula São Paulo

Gula Gula São Paulo

109 Rua Padre João Manuel, Cerqueira César, SP 01411-001, Brazil
, +55 11 96284-6820
