L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (40mn drive)
This little town outside of Avignon is nicknamed the Venice of the region. The river runs throughout the town and there is even a floating market. Important artists including Braque, Char, and Picasso lived here. Today it is famous for its antiquaries shops and Roman ruins.
Gorges de la Nesque (15mn drive)
Gorges de la Nesque is a spectacular canyon with hiking options. From the village of Monieux, you can take a short walk to visit a troglodyte chapel near the river.
Vaison-la-Romaine (30mn drive)
Vaison-la-Romaine is one of the most important Roman sites in France, featuring medieval old city and a castle.
Gordes (35mn drive)
Gordes is a small, beautiful medieval city well worth a visit. Close to Gordes stands one of the most famous French Cistercian abbeys: Senanques, which is still occupied by monks and open to visitors.
