A block away from the hotel is one of our favorite places for a quick but elegant bite, coffee, or drink. La Buvette is open on Thursday from 10am-11pm, Friday from 10am-Midnight, and Saturday from 9am to Midnight.
Also a block from the hotel, M's Pub is a bistro that is so beloved, when its building burned down a few years ago, it was rebuilt and restored almost exactly as it had been before. The lavash and the escargot are awesome. M's is open from 11am to 1am, but the kitchen closes at midnight.
This small grocery store, deli, and convenience store is two blocks from the hotel -- the place to pick up any small things you might need while you're in Omaha, from toiletries to (over-the-counter) medicine to wine to fresh produce to a personal-size Godfather's pizza to a good sandwich or side.
A great place to browse, just one block from the hotel. One of the few remaining great locally-owned bookstores. Lots of great used books and stacks to get lost in.
Two blocks from the hotel is one of America's last great record stores, which has refused to die and instead become an Omaha institution. A great place to browse and to discover new music.
For many years this shrine to beef, next to the largest stockyards in the world, was the greatest place in the universe to have a steak. An Omaha institution and an American treasure, it was featured in the Jack Nicholson movie About Schmidt. Lunch 11-2. Dinner 5-9.
Located two blocks south of the hotel, "the Durham Museum makes its home in the National Historic Landmark of Omaha's beautiful Art Deco Union Station. The museum houses an extraordinary array of permanent exhibits including restored train cars, 1940s store fronts, numerous artifacts showing the history of the region, and the Byron Reed collection which includes some of the world’s rarest coins and documents. There are also impressive traveling exhibits through The Durham’s affiliation with the Smithsonian and other national and international museums and lending institutions. During your stay, be sure to stop by the authentic soda fountain and enjoy a phosphate or malt."
The Kiewit Luminarium, a state-of-the-art children's science museum, opened just this year on Omaha's riverfront: "a dynamic space where people of all ages can explore extraordinary phenomena at the intersection of science, art, and human perception through interactive displays and engaging exhibits."
Although Omaha is only the 40th-biggest city in the country, its zoo "is consistently ranked one of the best in the world." “Walk through the world’s largest indoor desert and the largest indoor rainforest in North America. Explore exotic locations and underground caves to see thousands of animals from across the globe in their natural habitat. With more than 7 acres of indoor exhibits, Omaha’s Zoo is a year-round must-do.” Open Daily, 10am-4pm. Admission is $19/Adult, $13/Child.
