Traveling to Holbox is the only tricky part of the entire week! As we were just there, we have a pretty good idea of what it takes to do this successfully. It is a full travel day to the island and then back home so please expect about 12 hours each way. Coordinating similar schedules will make booking the entire travel experience easier. We will help with that. Once we get an RSVP from everyone, we will act as a travel concierge, coordinating plans with all travellers. Travel details: Travel can be up to 7 hours to Cancun from SF (and we loose 2 hours to time change). Then, a pre-arranged shuttle will take us on a two hour drive to Chiquilla, where we catch the quick ferry to Holbox. The ferry is around $10 dollars and runs every half hour in alternating boats. The last one leaves to Holbox around 10pm (so if you are not there on time then you are stuck in Chiquilla until the next morning). Once on the island, it is easy to walk or take a golf cart taxi to your lodging.

Southwest

Southwest leaves from Oakland and goes to Cancun with one stop. If you are coming from any other place best to coordinate arrival times as best you can so we can all shuttle together in Mexico. Let us know what you find flight-wise and we'll coordinate them together.

Shuttle from Airport to Chiquila Ferry

A private shuttle from the airport to Chiquilla Ferry for ten people is about $500 round trip if booked ahead of time. Shuttle is about 1 and a half hour drive ish. They are usually pretty chill and offer to stop at the local gas station for some drinks and snacks if you want before heading down the road. We didnt understand the importance of securing this shuttle ahead of time, and were forced to pay one of the ruthless cab companies whatever they wanted (I got them down from $380 to $220 USD, but really should've got the shuttle ahead of time).

Chiquila Ferry to Holbox

This part was easy. 9 Hermanos is one of the TWO ferry companies that run to the island, with ferries departing every thirty minutes. It is about a 20 minute ride and costs about $10 one way from either. Do not buy round trip because you might not take the same ferry on the way back. Simply walk up to a booth on the dock, get a ticket and wait for the boat. Simple! Good to note the last ferry. When we arrived we were lucky to catch the last one at 10pm. If we were any later then we would have been sleeping on the beach until morning. Our taxi driver was very ambitious and got us there on time but we did run into a huge traffic jam on the dirt road he was taking us on. Ahead was a huge fire that blocked both sides of the road. So we had to turn around and take highway toll road which I am sure our driver was not thrilled about.
