Like many modern love stories begin, ours began on a bored week night swiping left, right, up and down on social media and dating sites. Ben made a (really cheesy) joke as an opening line, and somehow managed to get a response. From small talk to real life, we began to grow closer. With grad school approaching, time grew tighter and we grew apart. Fast forward to the height of 2020, and Ben decided he wanted to shoot his shot a second time. We weren’t sure at first how it would go since the world had stopped in it’s tracks, but they say distance makes the heart grow fonder. It was almost like no time had passed, and we grew even closer than before. Fast forward 3 years and a lot of growing done, and Ben finally got his moment to distract me from life and ask me to change my last name. Of course I said yes. And it all started with a swipe.

Much like any couple, we had talked about future plans (like someday getting married) but Meg wanted to finish school first. Ben agreed and we wanted to start our lives before taking that leap. Meg had just graduated PT school and was celebrating 7 years of studying and being something along the lines of a hermit. Meg‘a dad went to give a speech that mimicked the one he gave at her sweet 16 when he gave her a Claddagh ring and told her that he wanted the first ring she got to be from her dad (cue the waterworks). Jason gave his speech and asked if Meg was crying yet, and she said no (though was trying not to), when he passed the torch to Ben. Ben’s big line at the end of his speech was “I promised her I would not distract her until she finished chasing her dreams, and now that she’s done, I think it’s about time that I distract her”, and got down on one knee. Meg doesn’t like being the center of attention and was caught pretty off guard, and didn’t immediately answer and just kind of stood there with a dumb look on her face, before realizing she didn’t actually give Ben an answer!! Of course she said yes, and then the tears started. Surrounded by family and friends we began our journey together.
