When I "accidentally" got a job in South Bend, Indiana, I never believed I'd end up becoming a Hoosier, much less marrying one. After Danny had moved out of a friend's house to go to graduate school at Indiana University, I moved in to take a job at Penn High School. When he came back for a visit, he was surprised to see a girl was the new roommate. From that first night, we both knew something was special and after seeing Danny play music at Fiddler's Hearth, I was smitten. A few months, a few friends' interventions, and a kiss in the back of the Uber, Danny and I were together and after a year of long distance, I moved down to Indianapolis to be with Danny. We've made the city our home ever since!
If you would have asked someone three years ago if I was a camper, they would have laughed and laughed. But that's my favorite part of Danny: he encourages me to get out of my comfort zone (and he makes a mean campfire meal). Our fall break camping trip to Nordhouse Dunes on the west coast of Michigan began with wind and rain but by the second day, we could see the changing leaves and the sun was shining. That evening, we went down to the beach to have a fire and make dinner. While there, Danny uncharacteristically suggested taking a selfie, setting up his tripod. When he came over to pose for the picture, he kissed me and said he actually had a question. He asked, I said yes, and we cheers-ed on the beach with a mini bottle of champagne Danny had packed. It was a perfect, private moment that we were able to later celebrate with all of our friends and family (after a proper shower, of course)!
