We first met during the Summer of 2012 while Lauren was working at the Rusty Rudder and Douglas was a frequent patron. Our love story started there and took a year hiatus as Lauren finished college at East Carolina University and Douglas...well lived it up for another year or so. Flash forward to Spring of 2014 Lauren found Douglas coming back into her life as the frequent Rudder weekends became a routine. They started officially seeing each other in May of 2014. Douglas knew all along that Lauren was the woman he wanted to be with and Lauren knew Douglas was the man for her. Through the constant laughs, endless love and many bottle of Tito's, their love advanced into something special. Through the next few years, they lived together in Lauren's condo in Cornelius and built a dream home on Lake Norman in Denver, NC. Douglas (or Lauren) started his Bachelor's Degree at Embry Riddle, started to fly a B-767 (career changing) and Lauren advanced in her career each and every day. They worked together as the ultimate "power couple" never losing sight of their goals but still enjoying life together as a couple. When COVID-19 first hit in early 2020, Douglas was flying internationally (before it came to the states) and was forced to be gone 32+ days, where he saw the world outside during a very scary time. He came home in late March and instantly told Lauren he knew he couldn't live without her and asked her to marry him. She thought he was just jet lagged, but as the weeks went on, they applied for a marriage license on April 17th, 2020 and set a court date for May 22nd, 2020. They planned this small and special day very privately, telling just a few people. It was intimate and romantic and allowed us to be in the moment. We kept it to ourselves for at least a month before we were dying to tell their friends and family (who were so surprised, some didn't even believe us at first. But here we are, excited to celebrate our special day on our one year anniversary! <3
