We met at a wine and pasta party at Casey’s apartment in the Fall of 2018. We spent the evening doing our own thing, not speaking a single word to each other. As the party began to die down, we found ourselves cleaning up and doing the dishes together. We stood at that kitchen sink close to an hour, conversing the entire time yet never looking at each other. Lauren washed the dishes while Casey dried. After both telling each other we weren’t looking for anything, we ended up scheduling a “friend date” for the following week - which, if we are being honest, was anything but a “friend date.” We ended our “friend date” with a missed kiss that turned into a hug and a quick little smooch. We made it official a few weeks later and haven’t looked back!
The last thing you want to hear the morning of your proposal is “I know I shouldn’t say this, but whatever you do please do not propose today.” Casey may have been having a mini panic attack on the inside, but he played it off and sent Lauren on her way to work. Casey had made plans to grab lunch for them before picking Lauren up from work and told her he would have it waiting in the car. Little did Lauren know, Casey had spent the entire morning turning the apartment into a photo timeline of our relationship with cat-friendly flowers and candles (with the help of our sisters - thank you Meaghan and Jamie). When they arrived for lunch, Casey led Lauren through the apartment over to the kitchen where he had set up his piano. At this point, Lauren was hungry, confused, and in a hurry to get back to work. Casey played and sang our favorite love song, “Better Together” by Luke Combs. Casey finished the proposal at the kitchen sink with the ring placed on a stack of dishes (yes, they were clean). Casey surprised Lauren by getting her the rest of the day off, as well as inviting their families over for a celebration. Our relationship blossomed at the kitchen sink the night we met, and we started the next chapter from the exact same spot - just like any great love story.
WE MOVED!! We are sure most of you know that by now, but for those of you who don't - last summer we packed up our life in Bozeman and drove across the country with our cats to Burlington, Vermont to start our next chapter. What we learned on our drive is that there is a TON of corn between Montana and Vermont! Casey got accepted to medical school at the Larner College of Medicine and has absolutely crushed this year on his journey to becoming a DOCTOR! Still unsure of a specific specialty, Casey has enjoyed every minute of getting to learn more about his options. Lauren found a job as an Assistant Director of Admissions at the University of Vermont and has been loving that she still gets to say "GO CATS!" on a daily basis! Lauren has begun looking into graduate school programs through the University of Vermont, but finds passion in a variety of programs - so she is still working on nailing that down! We have enjoyed exploring our new home and the Northeast! Our only complaint is that nothing will ever come close to those gorgeous Montana mountains - hence the song :) Props to you if you caught on to the song from the beginning, but if not give it a listen (Meet Me In Montana - Dan Seals and Marie Osmond).
