If you ask our moms, they will tell you they're match makers! Brett's parents moved to Pittsburg, KS next door to Lauren's mom and step-dad, Shelly and Phil, they then became close friends. After talking to Shelly, Brett's mom Mel floated the idea to Brett that he should reach out to Lauren and set up a date. Not too long later, Lauren received a Facebook message from Brett, who was living in Baton Rouge at the time. They exchanged numbers which led to Brett setting up a coffee date in downtown KCMO at The Roasterie where ultimately their story began. After coffee, Brett took Lauren to the Scout Statue overlooking the KC skyline where they shared their first kiss. From that date on, they stayed in touch; Brett moved to Kansas City then they officially started dating.

Brett's mom Mel had been discussing doing family photos for over a year so it was very believable to Lauren when Mel said she wanted to do family pictures at the Scout Statue (where Brett and Lauren went on their first date) because the Anderson family had previously done pictures at the same location. Lauren began to have suspicions the morning of pictures when Brett poured himself a whiskey on the rocks at 11 AM... Her suspicions were confirmed when Lauren and Brett showed up to the Scout Statue, where Brett got down on one knee and asked Lauren to marry him. A photographer, personalized champagne flutes, and KC Chiefs bottle of champagne were added little touches to make for the perfect proposal. After the proposal, Brett and Lauren shared the moment at Lew's Bar and Grill with close friends and family.
