How we met

On a random Friday night in September, Hunter was in Boston for a Sox game. Instead of going out in the Fenway area after, one of his good friends Ben insisted they Uber to Davis Square to go to this “great bar.” Meanwhile, Lauren (who was living next to Davis Square) planned to not go out that evening, opting instead to just walk to her friend Andrew’s apartment. Of course, after several hours of hanging out, the group at Andrew’s convinced her to join them in going to their regular dive bar for live music and dancing. Hunter and Lauren both ended up in the packed back room of The Burren. Lauren spied Hunter bopping to the 90s cover band, on a whim reached through the crowd to cheers his glass, and the rest is history!

The proposal

In Spetember 2021, we took our first big international trip together to Greece. After several days of wandering through ancient ruins, tasting local wine, and having delicious Greek food (through all of which Hunter was casually carrying the ring in his backpack, much to my horror when I found out), Hunter decided to pop the question on a semi-private sailing excursion on the island of Rhodes. It was an absolutely magical day sailing into several bays and jumping off the boat to swim in the crystal water. Just before lunch Hunter asked to get a photo at the front of the boat. Struggling to pull the ring out of the pocket of his swim trunks, Hunter distracted me by asking about something on the shore. Finally he got the ring out of his pocket, but as he went to kneel a wave jerked the boat as he tapped me on the arm. This caused me to think the whole photo was a set up to jokingly push me in the water. So I turned to face him yelling “don’t push me!” (yes, caught on video) only to find him kneeling with a shining ring in his outstretched hands. The rest went: “Will you marry me?” “Are you serious?” “Yes, I’m serious!” “Yes!” And then lots of happy crying, celebrating, and Greek white wine from the boat captain.
