Flight

Ontario International Airport

~1 hour 25 minutes away* (64 miles) *Ontario airport is the closest airport to Big Bear, but you may encounter heavy traffic traveling to and from Ontario during rush hour. This could substantially lengthen travel time.

Flight

Palm Springs International Airport

~1 hour 45 minutes away (91 miles) Traffic is unlikely when traveling to and from Palm Springs.

Travel Note

Additional Airports

There are numerous airports in Southern California. You may find better deals on flights through airports that are further away. Always allow extra travel time to account for traffic. Routes to Big Bear

There are 3 ways to get up the mountain to Big Bear. 1) Highway 330 to Highway 18: Shortest distance from Ontario, Orange County, and Los Angeles. This road is VERY windy. Not recommended if you suffer from motion sickness easily. Traffic most likely on this route. 2) Highway 38: About 10 miles longer than 330/18, but not as windy. Another option for those coming from Ontario, Orange County, or Los Angeles. This is considered the "scenic route." 3) Highway 18 through Lucerne Valley: This route brings you up to our elevation the most gradually and with only a couple of switchbacks. This is the best route if driving from Arizona or Palm Springs. If anyone traveling from the Inland Empire, Orange County, or Los Angeles wants to take this route, you will have to detour up the Cajon Pass and through the High Desert.

For all the days along the way
