Question

What is a handfasting?

Answer

A handfasting is traditionally a "ceremony of betrothal" that was done in the British Isles between the 12th to 17th century. In Scotland, it was done prior to a church wedding to mark the beginning of a year-long "trial marriage," after which the couple could choose to be legally married or go their separate ways. Today, handfastings are often incorporated into a modern wedding ceremony in appreciation of traditional Celtic customs.

Question

Do you have a registry?

Answer

We have decided not to do a registry

Question

Where is the ceremony taking place?

Answer

At the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in the Ballroom located on the second floor of the Student Center. A map has been included in the "Photos" section of this website

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Semi-formal is the official dress code, but it's ultimately up to you. As this is a Scottish-inspired wedding, kilts are encouraged if you own one and are so moved to wear it.

Question

You said the dress code was "ultimately up to you." What if I want to wear a banana suit or something?

Answer

Please do.

Question

I'm traveling from out of town. Where should I stay?

Answer

There are a number of hotels on the south side of Chickasha if you want to be close to the venue. However, if you are staying for more than a day, you may have a more enjoyable time staying somewhere in Oklahoma City or Norman.

Question

Where should I park?

Answer

There's limited parking off Alabama on the north side of the Student Center. Additional parking will be around the oval.
