Laura and Chris met in Chapel Hill in 2012 when they were introduced through a friend at a dorm party. Chris was finishing his first year at UNC and Laura was studying abroad from Kings College London. While Laura had to go back to the UK only a matter of weeks after they met, they didn’t let the Atlantic Ocean stand in their way. In being separated, Laura and Chris realized that they would do anything to be together again and wanted to spend their lives with each other. After years of finding every way to spend time with each other between Chapel Hill and London, they moved to Australia together after graduation and have been happily co-located since, living in Melbourne, Sydney, New York, and now California. They couldn’t be more excited to celebrate in the place that brought them together on this incredible journey.

The Carolina Inn is special to Chapel Hill, and Chapel Hill is special to Chris and Laura. On the location where the Carolina Inn now sits was once the site of the chapel on the hill - the namesake for Chapel Hill, and the hotel has been a mainstay of the UNC campus for nearly 100 years. The Carolina Inn pioneered what’s now known as the Southern Colonial style, a mixture of Georgian, Neoclassical and European influences. The original façade of the building was modeled after the front of Mount Vernon facing the Potomac River. Being in downtown Chapel Hill, the hotel is walkable to both the UNC campus, as well as Franklin Street.
