Every story has two sides, every truth two perspectives; our journey is the same. Depending on who you ask, the details of how we met differ, but the memories are the same. We can both agree that we met on a hot, beautiful, sunny summer day. Precisely, it was July 26th, 2019 between the hours of 2-4PM. We were outside our apartment complex in Saginaw, where we had unknowingly been living one floor apart for over one year. If you ask Lara, she is adamant that JJ was walking his curious dog Chipper, who stopped to take a sniff of her melting Acai bowl she was enjoying in the oversized lawn chair. Conversation struck because JJ noticed a similar charm on her gold chain. From there, she kept him up for days on end, talking outside at all hours of the night, while she was taking night call from home. He was a mediocre companion. If you ask JJ, he claims to tell the correct story, which lacks a dog altogether. He stopped at home to pack up the car and head “Up North” for a weekend away, when a neighbor started chatting him up. The neighbor introduced the two, who hit it off right away. Since Chipper was boarded at the kennel for the weekend, Lara and Chipper only met upon his return on Sunday night, where JJ kept Lara company during her first night call from home. Regardless of how we met, and our continued differences in opinion, it was the beginning of a life together. Job changes, the pandemic, a stretch of long-distance, fellowship applications, you name it. We would be honored to have you be a part of our big day next year, and vote on your preferred version of the story, as there is an obvious best choice.
