We met at Coastal Community Church while students at UTMB Galveston. Morgan was pursuing a career in nursing, while Ash was in school to become a Physician Assistant. We frequently ran into each other around campus and even around the island. It soon became the joke that one of us was following the other around, but really it's just a small island. A local coffee shop about 20 minutes from campus would be the perfect place for the stressed students to study. One day, Morgan was at this coffee shop studying for a dreaded pathophysiology exam. Ash walked in and ordered his coffee then noticed a familiar face. He would go up to her and interrupt her focus, naturally, and ask her what she was doing and how it was going. When his order was ready, he parted from her but left his wallet on her table. She finished studying and prepared to leave. On her way out, she came over to his table and gave his wallet back. Was this a slick move by Ash or pure serendipity? Certainly, the latter. That encounter led to more frequent, intentional study sessions. Friends joined in. DMs on instagram evolved into text messages. In November, Ash finally stepped up to the plate and asked Morgan on a date. The first date ended up lasting 7 hours. 3 Months into our relationship, COVID-19 ran rampant and changed the world as well as our relationship. Our daily study sessions, weekend outings, and night drives around the island turned into weekly meet ups for lunch or coffee. Despite the distance, busy school/work schedules, and a worldwide pandemic applying pressure, we made the effort to stay together. As the endless months passed and things started to look normal, we got to see each other more and knew we wouldn't want a life without the other in it. The best day had come upon us. At Coastal Community Church where we had met, 3 years ago, Ash surrounded Morgan with memories of their time together and she said yes to a lifetime of memories to ensue. Our story is unconventional, but oh so sweet. It's a testament to the grace of God and his gifts for us. At what will almost be 4 years to the day of our first date, we will meet on the altar. If you're reading this, we'd love you to be there and celebrate this story of sacrifice, love, and, perhaps most importantly, a moment of serendipity in a coffee shop.
