Formerly the home of oil tycoon Waite Phillips, the villa and its grounds were gifted to Tulsa in 1938 with the vision of becoming a cultural hub and world-class art museum. The bride and groom had their engagement photos taken in its gardens.
A running joke between the bride and groom, the Center of the Universe is indeed in Tulsa. Fueled by an accidental feat of engineering, only the speaker can hear an endless echo of their own voice when standing in the Center of the Universe.
Housed in the Sam Travis Mansion, the Tulsa Historical Society & Museum depicts both the good and bad of Tulsa's rich history. The estate also features vintage gardens, adjacent to the Tulsa Rose Garden of Woodward Park and Gardens.
Another architectural wonder, the Art Deco interior of the Philtower Building transports visitors back to a time when Tulsa was a bustling center of wealth, commerce, and frivolity. The Philtower also houses some of Tulsa's famous underground tunnel system, previously used by wealthy businessmen to navigate downtown without having to brave Oklahoma's unpredictable weather.
