Like the millennials/gen-z-ers we are, we of course met on a dating app (hi, Tinder). Drew was a marine in the middle of his four-year contract, and had come home from California to see his family for a month. I was bored in college and single, so naturally I was swiping through Tinder on a daily basis trying to see if there was any hope out there for me. Little did I know, I was about to meet the love of my life! Unfortunately, we started talking the week before Drew went back to California and a huge snow storm came through our area, so we weren't able to meet until SIX MONTHS later. My mom, best friend, and I went on a road trip out to California to visit Drew and to finally meet, and it has been a wild roller coaster ever since!
Drew got home for good in December of 2020 and I knew it was coming. He tried his best to make it as much of a surprise as it could be, and I didn't snoop a single time (proud moment, mom!) because I wanted at least some small sense of surprise. A few friends convinced me to go window shopping and get drinks with them at the Plaza (we were COVID-safe, promise!) because we've been in quarantine for nearly a year and never have an excuse to get dolled up. So we went window shopping and stopped at a bar for a little while, and then they decided they wanted to walk to the other side of the Plaza to take pictures in front of a huge fountain. When we finally got over there, Drew came out from behind a tree (where he had been hiding for nearly 45 minutes, oops!) and got down on one knee. We had a nice dinner and drinks with friends afterwards, and I couldn't have envisioned a better evening for our proposal!
